Who We Are

IRONMAN UK Events is a Non-Profit Making organisation specifically set up to organise and run both the IRONMAN UK and UK IRONMAN 70.3 events - for which they have the long-term UK licence for.

The Non-Profit Making organisation is based in Somerset and employs just two members of staff. The Race Office deals with all the day-to-day running of both events and is the main point of contact for competitors, supporters, sponsors, media and residents queries.

In keeping with their Non-Profit Making status IRONMAN UK Events have worked alongside Rotary since the IRONMAN UK event moved to Dorset in 2003. Each year the Rotary organisation use the event as a vehicle for various fund raising activities. These fundraising activities include:

  • Selling the official IRONMAN UK/UK IRONMAN 70.3 Race Programmes. IRONMAN UK Events pay for all the design and productions costs. Rotary sell the programmes to the supporters at each event. 100% of the price is donated to charity. Design and production costs are not taken out of the funds raised - those costs are paid separately by IRONMAN UK Events.
  • Car parking at each event is manned by Rotary personnel. A fee of £5 is charged per car for the whole duration of race week and race weekend. This £5 from each attending vehicle and its occupants fundraises a substantial amount. In 2007 just under £100,000 was raised by the IRONMAN UK Events and Rotary. These funds were donated to many varied charities both local, national and international.

The 2009 figure is still being added to as more fund raised money is still being collected.

Owned by an experienced IRONMAN competitor (raced all over the world at various IRONMAN events and qualified, competed and completed Hawaii World Champs twice!) IRONMAN UK Events prides itself on putting the athletes first and foremost. The most important thing on race day is the athlete and the race course. Starting all 1500 competitors in the water and then ensuring they all cross the Finish Line many hours later is the sole aim of the organisers! As competitors themselves they know what is important. To achieve this they work alongside their captains, officials and volunteers throughout Race day to ensure everything runs smoothly for the athletes out on the race course. Many athletes never realise just how close they get to the owners of IRONMAN UK!

To own an official IRONMAN World Qualifying event is a dream come true for a retired IRONMAN competitor! It is a labour of love that keeps the IRONMAN passion burning - despite no longer having the time to train anymore! To have enabled so many athletes the opportunity to cross that all-important IRONMAN UK/UK IRONMAN 70.3 finish line is a proud achievement. To have enable so many athletes to hear those words 'You are and IRONMAN ' makes the months of behind the scenes work worth while.

In the UK race organising is not a job for the faint hearted. IRONMAN racing organising is an even tougher challenge with limited areas of safe, swimmable water, limited areas of space for the event to enjoy, limited funding - but then if it was an easy task everyone would be doing it and the UK would have had its very own IRONMAN event 20 years ago! IRONMAN UK Events are proud of their achievements and are proud to be known as the 'Friendliest Race' on the global circuit.

IRONMAN UK Events looks forward to welcoming you to the start line of their events........remember......Anything Is Possible............ IRONMAN UK Events
